Restorative Care
A Smile Apart: Reinvigorate Your Mouth
Over time, some smiles lose their luster. Especially if it hasn't always been easy or affordable to get to the dentist. We have a number of services for those patients whose mouths may be showing a tad of wear and tear—sometimes even young mouths need restorative treatments. We offer tooth-colored fillings, inlays and onlays, and also more complex procedures like dentures, implant restorations, and bridges.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
We fill all new cavities with tooth-colored composite material. But did you know, we can also replace your existing amalgam fillings with tooth-colored fillings? Don't let dark-colored fillings in your back teeth keep you from throwing back your head in an open-mouth belly laugh. Tooth-colored fillings are also an advantage in areas of decay in the front teeth. Let us help restore the gorgeousness to every part of your mouth.
Inlays and Onlays
For teeth with larger damage, but that are not otherwise badly diminished or infected, we use inlays and onlays. An inlay is a tooth-colored replacement for a part of a tooth while an onlay replaces all four corners of the crown, like a rebuild kit for your tooth.
Crowns and Bridges
Crowns and bridges both replace missing teeth. A crown is basically a full cover for a badly compromised tooth. Bridges are used when a tooth is completely absent—the restoration attaches to teeth on either side of the missing tooth and hold an accurate, beautiful replacement tooth in place.
Partials and Dentures
If you're missing some or all of your teeth, you may be a candidate for a partial or a denture. Partial dentures replace several missing teeth and, like a bridge, attach to the surrounding teeth to create a harmonious appearance and bite. A full denture replaces all of the teeth on the top or bottom jaw. These are made to match your mouth and are created from hard plastic. They often require an adjustment period, but will help restore your confidence and get you smiling again.
Dental Implants
The implant process happens in two stages. First, an implant specialist places an implant root in the jaw. Sometimes bone grafting is required which means the doctor will use bone material–sometimes your own – to strengthen your jaw bone where the roots will be placed. Implants can replace any number of missing teeth. Then, after a waiting period, Dr. Kappel will place your replacement teeth. The teeth are carefully designed to match your mouth and preferences and, for full-mouth implants, take up less space than dentures, making your appearance more youthful, and making it more comfortable to eat and speak.
Root Canals
Sometimes dentists refer to root canals as endodontic treatments. Root canals are important because they let us preserve your natural tooth as much as possible, this means less risk for your bite and more beauty for your smile. When teeth get infected, or abscessed, they are usually really painful. When that happens, we open the tooth and remove the infected pulp. Then we replace it with sealing material, and Dr. Kappel uses a crown to restore the infected tooth. What a relief!
Oral Surgery
When dentists remove teeth, they call it oral surgery. We like to preserve your natural teeth as much as possible, so we think of oral surgery as a last resort. Except in cases like wisdom teeth when the additional teeth may not fully erupt or contribute to crowding, accelerated or increased decay, and other problems. Dr. Kappel is gentle, compassionate, careful, and professional when it comes to oral surgery. There is nothing to fear.
